Saturday Morning Special - April 16th

~
We ran the gauntlet of prospect hockey on Saturday morning covering major junior, NCAA, Canadian Jr.A, the AHL and even some NHL stuff too. Four guests made their debut appearance on The Pipeline Show as well this weekend.

We kicked off the Saturday Game Day edition of TPS by speaking with the voice of the Hamilton Bulldogs, Derek Wills. Montréal's AHL affiliate is locking horns with the Oklahoma City Barons, the farm club of the Edmonton Oilers. We were able to get a great recap of game 1 and a preview of game 2 (all OKC Barons playoff games can be heard of TEAM 1260 by the way). Wills was also able to breakdown the strengths of the Bulldogs for us and also offered up thoughts on the wannabe future Oilers.

The Soo Greyhounds of the OHL made history on Friday when they announced that 25-year-old agent Kyle Dubas was taking over the General Manager position with the club. We spoke with Dubas about getting the job and how he'll handle the skeptics who wonder if he'll be able to handle the position at a record young age. What's next for the Greyhounds? Dubas told us.

Nick Shore was a freshman at the University of Denver this past year and is now up for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. We spoke with the forward about following in his brothers footsteps through the US-NTDP and to the Pioneers, his home town NCAA program.

We covered a lot of hot topics like the NHL playoffs - which goalie is feeling the most pressure, Philly's Sergei Bobvrovsky or Washington's Michael Neuvirth? Should Bobby Ryan and Jarret Stoll receive suspensions for altercations they were involved in recently?

We discussed the first couple of days at the World U18 Hockey Championship and how Canada and the United States have performed thus far. Do the Americans holhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifd a distinct advantage because of their national development program that sends a team of players who have trained and played together all year? Should Canada do the same?

Finally, the 2011 Doyle Cup is a rematch of last year's series between the Vernon Vipers and the Spruce Grove Saints. Head coach of the Saints, Jason McKee, joined us to discuss the series and the key players on his team.
