Joe's Journey-Day 3

~
Each Day of the Royal Bank Cup, Camrose Kodiaks forward Joe Colborne, who's predicted to be a first round NHL draft pick this June will give us a first hand look at what it's like playing for a National Championship. (photo courtesy Camrose Kodiaks) Here's Day 3, Sunday May 4th, 2008:

We had our first game today, and more importantly, our first win! We had a rather quiet breakfast, and then had about 30 minutes to rest in our rooms before catching the bus to our afternoon game. My roommate is Nigel Dube, and we both spent the time just listening to our ipods and focusing. Other than the fact that he has way too many superstitions ( and i mean way too many) he is a pretty good roommate. At least he doesnt snore like (Andre) Herman did.

It was different playing an afternoon game today, but once we got closer to gametime, and our pregame rituals kicked in, it was easy to focus. I mean, we have been working all year for a chance to play here. We came out a little slow in the first ten minutes, but thanks to some solid penalty killing and an efficient powerplay, we took control of the game and never relinquished it.

After the game, some guys had to talk to some of the media that are covering the tournament, and most of us finally got to meet Mathieu's parents, who travelled in from Amos, Quebec. We also got to meet his girlfriend, Marie-Alex, who we have all heard so much about!

The rest of the day was taken up with eating and recovering for our afternoon game tomorrow against Humboldt. And on that note, I should probably get some sleep.
