Friday night in the AHL saw 13 games on the schedule including the Springfield Falcons home to the Lowell Devils.
Things started off with a bang when Lowell's Louis Robitaille stuck his knee out on Ryan McMurchy. Jake Taylor jumped in to dance with Robitaille who picked up 15 minutes in the sin bin on the play. The birds were able to capitalize just once on the 5 minute major when Slava Trukhno picked up his first point setting up Colton Fretter down low to make it 1-0.
Special teams were key for Springfield later in the first as well. After taking a returning from a big hit, Colin McDonald capitalized on a horrible giveaway by Mike McKenna and pumped home his 3rd of the season shorthanded into a half empty net.
Things seemed to turn on the Falcons in the 2nd when Stephen Gionta beat Devan Dubnyk with a long wrister from just inside the blueline, definitely a shot the goaltender has to stop.
The unholy notched 2 more in the 3rd from Tyler Eckford and Alexander Vasyunov to take the lead, before Chris Mindard tied it up on the power play with under 4 minutes to play.
This one needed a shoot out where Vladamir Zharkov won it as the Devils 6th shooter for a 4-3 win.
Springfield played without Theo Peckham who was recalled by the Oilers Friday and they take on Worcester Saturday night before a rematch with Lowell on Sunday.
