What About Me? A List of Undrafted Players from 2011

There were 210 players chosen by NHL teams over the weekend in Minnesota as the 2011 NHL Entry Draft was held. As is the case every year, not every player worthy of selection was taken and now several players have their fingers crossed that their phone will ring, hoping for an invite to a NHL summer camp.
Players who attend summer camps on invites can be signed by the host team as is the case with NHL training camps in the fall. However, those clubs that hold a summer evaluation or orientation camp will use the opportunity to get a better look at NCAA free agents too as those players won't be able to attend in the Fall.
Recent examples of players who have been signed in the off season after going undrafted include goalie J.P Anderson (SJ), Kellen Tochkin (VAN), Brett Raedeke (DET) and former Calgary Hitman and Canadian WJC netminder Martin Jones (LA).

The Class of 2011 on TPS (Oct - Nov)

Continuing from where I left off yesterday, October and November featured a number of 2011 eligible players we'd consider sleepers or under the radar guys. Obviously we talked to more 1st round players too but it was in this point of the year that we introduced fans to a player who wasn't even ranked by Central Scouting who ended up on their final list (and will get drafted higher than he is ranked). And not just players but coaches, scouts and media folks who cover specific, key prospects as well.

2011 Draft Blog: Dylan Willick Pt.6

Continuing with Chapter 6 of his guest blogging series with us is Dylan Willick, forward of the Kamloops Blazers. The native of Prince George, B.C. submitted his first entry to the blog back on November 1st with Part 2 arriving at the end of November. Part 3 came early in 2011. On February we were treated to the 4th installment. Chapter 5 hit screens on March 10th.
Since then, Willick's season has come to an end but with the Blazers but some big news came his way in early April.

TPS: Game Day from the World's Longest Hockey Game

Saturday morning we were live at "Saikers Acres" east of Edmonton where 39 guys and one women are into their 9th day at the Worlds Longest hockey game. They are trying to raise a million dollars for a special machine at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton. This is a fantastic event to support and I can say that the Cross Cancer Institute is an amazing place that helped my wife battle breast cancer a few years ago. You can donate to the cause here and watch the game online here.

Top 5 Tu... er, Sunday: WHL 2nd Round Forwards

Our weekly Top 5 lists always come out on Tuesdays but this past week we missed it (Dean tied up at the Canadian Finals Rodeo for Global TV and me... sleeping) so you can consider this one a make up for 5 days ago. That, plus with NHL Central Scouting's list coming out on Monday, I wanted my thoughts to come out a bit before just for the sake of not following in their footsteps.
Today I'm looking at the Top 5 forwards out of the WHL that right now, aren't getting a lot of consideration as 1st round picks. Come June, one or two of these guys might have played their way into the top 30, but at this point in mid-November, no one has really been suggesting that they are 1st rounders.

Saturday Morning Special - Oct 23

The latest 'Gameday' version of TPS over the weekend is bound to get some people talking. Not only did our NHL Insider suggest that the Toronto Maple Leafs are in a better position this year than the Edmonton Oilers (!) but he was also relentless in his verbal assault on Dean. We also spoke with not one but two players eligible for the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, we looked at the youth in the system of the San Jose Sharks and we chatted with a NCAA reporter who is one of the most opinionated out there when it comes to college and CHL debates.
