Bruins Prospect Snap Shot

The Boston Bruins have been around for 86 years with 5 Stanley Cup’s in their trophy case. The last title came in 1972, and the Bruins last contended for the cup in 1990 losing to the Oilers. Boston has 3 times drafted first overall taking Barry Gibbs in 1966, Gord Kluzak in 1982, and Joe Thornton in 1997. That year the Bruins also took Sergei Samsonov 8th overall. In 2010 Boston will also have 2 first round picks (If they don’t trade one) thanks to the Phil Kessel trade with Toronto.
The Bruins top minor league team is in Providence. The baby Bruins won a Calder Cup in 1999, but are struggling right. As of this writing they were 7th in the Atlantic division.
Here now is a look at the top prospects of the Boston Bruins.

Tuesday night on The Pipeline Show I had a chance to catch up with Rouyn-Noranda Huskies forward Philippe Cornet. The QMJHL team has been in the news as of late, first because of their aggressive trade deadline acquisitions that has positioned the club to be a potential contender for the league title. The other newsworthy item featuring the Huskies as of late has been the suspension of forward Patrice Cormier after his dangerous and blatant elbow against Mikael Tam of the Quebec Remparts.

Some big names were shuffled around today as the QMJHL trade deadline came crashing down and the division between the contenders and the pretenders is now extremely clear. There was a total of 21 transactions completed and here are a few of the major ones that will have huge ramifications on the league down the stretch to the playoffs and beyond.

Caron Injured After Teubert Hit

Colten Teubert is regarded as one of the most physical defencemen in the WHL and that's ne of the reasons Hockey Canada had him on their WJC last year and why he'll be in Saskatoon/Regina in 2010. Unfortunately for Jordan Caron (BOS), he found out the hard way just how hard the Regina Pats defender can hit; he's now out for 6-8 weeks with a broken collar bone.
The Rimouski Oceanic forward was injured during Saturday's Red/White game during Canada's U20 camp in Saskatoon. Caron had just received a breakout pass and was crossing over his own blueline when he was rocked by the 6'3, 190 lb Teubert in an very aggressive but clean hit.
"It's unfortunate but it's part of the game right?" Teubert told the media after the game, "I'm just doing my job and that's what I do so... it sucks for him but hopefully he has a quick recovery."
Caron was taken to hospital after the hit and on Sunday the severity of the injury was revealed. Teubert (LA), was not penalized on the play.
Team White (Teubert's side) won the game 5-2 with both Jordan Eberle (EDM) and Ryan O'Reilly (COL) picking up a goal and an assist.

2009 Draft Performers of the Week - Apr 13/09
Each week, International Scouting Services (ISS), Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW), Hockey Now, and The Pipeline Show recognize the Top Draft Eligible player from each of the WHL, OHL, QMJHL, & USHL leagues for the upcoming 2009 NHL Entry Draft based on their play over the course of the week. Players are nominated and the selected by graduates of the SMWW Hockey GM & Scouting program and some appear each week on TPS.

Matt Duchene is this week’s OHL recipient after scoring twice and adding 3 assists in 3 games this week for Brampton who won their second round series vs. Mississauga in six games and will face Belleville in the OHL Eastern Conference final. Duchene is a gifted offensive player and sure fire first round pick in the June draft.

Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW) / International Scouting Services (ISS) 2009 Draft Prospect Performers of the Week presented by the Pipeline Show & Hockey Now ending Sunday, February 8, 2009.
Each week, International Scouting Services (ISS), Sports Management Worldwide (SMWW), Hockey Now, and The Pipeline Show recognize the Top Draft Eligible player from each of the WHL, OHL, QMJHL, & USHL leagues for the upcoming 2009 NHL Entry Draft based on their play over the course of the week. Players are nominated and the selected by graduates of the SMWW Hockey GM & Scouting with each of the winners receiving a gift acknowledging their selection.
OHL – Ethan Werek, Kingston Frontenacs
Ethan Werek wins his first award after a stellar week where he scored 4 goals and added 2 assists in 3 games for Kingston. Werek, a native of Goodwood, ON has 24 goals and 46 points in 50 games sitting second in Frontenacs team scoring. He represented Canada East at the 2007 World Jr. A Championship. Werek is a hard working player who shows great patience with the puck.
WHL – Collin Bowman, Kelowna Rockets
Collin Bowman is the WHL nominee after recording 2 assists and a plus-4 rating in 4 games this week. The native of Littleton, CO is in his third season with Kelowna and has posted a career high 19 points from the blueline in 53 games so far this season. Bowman is a big-body defenseman who is strong on his skates and has good reach.QMJHL – Jordan Caron, Rimouski Oceanic
Jordan Caron takes the QMJHL draft performer of the week after notching 5 goals in 3 games for the Oceanic. The 6’ 2” Centre has 29 goals and 18 assists in 43 games this season, his third with Rimouski. Caron is a well rounded player who is effective at both ends of the ice and plays in all situation. The Oceanic are hosting the 2009 Memorial Cup this May.USHL - Mike Lee, Fargo Force
Goaltender Mike Lee wins the USHL award after a week that saw him register wins against Lincoln and Green Bay. The rookie netminder also played in the USHL All-Star game last Wednesday. The first year goalie now has 17 wins against 12 losses and a 2.58 Goals Against Average. Lee, a native of Rosseau, MN plays the angles well and has shown in Fargo that he is able to make the big save when necessary. Lee will move to St. Cloud in the NCAA.

Centre Matthew Sisca had an outstanding week in the Ontario Hockey League for the Niagara Ice Dogs. The 17 year old from Woodbridge, ON registered 5 assists and was a plus-2 in two games this week versus Guelph and Kitchener. Sisca, a 5’ 9” Centre has 1 goal and 10 points in 9 games this season, and has almost already matched his 07-08 point total of 11 pts.
Western Hockey League – Evander Kane, Vancouver Giants
Evander Kane continued his stellar play this week for the Vancouver Giants. The 6’ 1” Vancouver native had 3 goals and 3 assists in two games this weekend. Kane’s excellent performance thus far in the 08-09 season has him at the top of the Western Hockey League’s scoring race as the slick skating centre has 9 goals and 10 assists in 9 games. This is the second consecutive week that Kane has been the WHL winner of this award.
Quebec Major Junior Hockey League – Jordan Caron, Rimouski Oceanic
Jordan Caron of the Rimouski Oceanic is the QMJHL draft performer of the week. The 6’ 2” 200 lb Right Winger from Sayabec, PQ fired 17 shots and scored 5 goals in 3 wins this week versus Montreal, Cape Breton and Gatineau. Caron has 7 goals and 2 assists in 8 games this season and is known for playing hard between whistles.
United States Hockey League – Brett Chartier, Lincoln Stars
Brett Chartier had a strong showing this past week for the Lincoln Stars. The 5’ 9” forward had 3 goals and 2 assists and was a plus-1 in wins against Sioux City and Sioux Falls. Chartier, a native of Winnipeg, MAN is in his first season in the USHL after playing the 07-08 season for the Winnipeg Saints of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. Chartier has yet to commit to a NCAA program.
Olivier Roy, netminder for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, will appear on The Pipeline Show tonight.
