Wheat Kings Shuffle The Deck...Twice

~

My inbox buzzed twice in less then two hours today with 2 separate deals that Brandon Wheat Kings G.M. Kelly McCrimmon pulled off. He added stability to the crease and some firepower up front.

First off the Lethridge Hurricanes sent goaltender Brandon Anderson and two picks to Brandon in exchange for fellow pipeman Liam Liston and another 18 year old Spencer Galbraith who is a defenceman.

Then McCrimmon turned around and picked up 35 goal man Darian Dziurzynski from Saskatoon for 3 bantam draft picks.

The first deal is interesting. Corbin Boes has been very good and obviously made Liam Liston expendable. At one point last year Liston was the top rated WHL goalie for the draft by NHL Central Scouting. It will be worth watching to see if he regains his form that earned him a spot in the Top Prospects game last year in the windy city.

As for adding scoring with Dziurzynski, it wasn't a weak part of the team as the Wheat Kings have offence coming out their ears. But an extra gun slinger isn't a bad thing to have. Some that I've spoken with think the Blades might start building for the Memorial Cup in 2013 and unload some older guys for some young high end talent. If this is true, it wouldn't surprise me that Mcrimmon is out in front of it.
