It's no surprise but Alex Pietrangelo's return to the Niagara Ice Dogs was a very short one as the St. Louis Blues prospect has been traded to Barrie in a massive 11-asset swap today. Just a few days since being returned to junior by the Blues, Pietrangelo joins the Barrie Colts the top ranked team in the Eastern Conference of the Ontario Hockey League.
Is it enough for the Colts to challenge the Windsor Spitfires for the league title?
Joining Pietrangelo (Photo: Matt Manor HHOF-IIHF Images) as new members of the Colts are Finnish netminder Petteri Simila and un-drafted 19-year-old forward Chris DeSousa. Just for good measure there is also a conditional 15th round pick in 2013 tacked onto the end of the deal as well.
As for Niagara's return in the multi-asset swap, the Ice Dogs get 5 draft picks (only one if for 2011) as well as Dane Simon Gronvaldt and 16-year-old Ryan Strome.
Both Barrie and Windsor are clear leaders in their respective conferences and anything but a meeting in the OHL Championship would have to be considered a monumental failure to one of them. That is as of now... the OHL trade deadline isn't until tomorrow and maybe something else will change before then.
