Carlson Calling The Shots
The Pipeline Show has learned that U.S.A. Hockey has named Mark Carlson as it's head coach for the upcoming World Junior A Challenge, starting November 2nd in Camrose, Alberta.
The United States will play in pool B with Team Canada East, and Germany, and will open the tourney against the Germans November 4th. Last year the Americans went 2-0 in the round robin before losing to eventual gold medal winners Canada West in the semi-final. They rebounded to beat Russia for the 2nd time in the event and claim the bronze medal.
Carlson is currently the Head Coach and G.M. of the Cedar Rapids Roughriders of the USHL, and has held the position since 1999. He's led the team to 8 straight playoff spots, and won the league title, The Clark Cup, in 2004-2005.
A former draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Clark helped shape current Calgary Flame David Moss, as well as future Red Wing Justin Abdelkader and LA King Teddy Purcell while they were in Cedar Rapids.
Purcell was just on TPS last week, you can hear the interview here, and this Tuesday, Mark Carlson will join us to discuss the upcoming tournament and what team U.S.A will look like. Tune in from 7-9 PM mountain time The TEAM 1260 locally, or around the world online.
