2012 WHL Bantam draft preview: Top Ten Goalies


We've ranked the forwards and the dmen, so now it's time to show you who our panel of scouts think are the top 10 goaltenders, and a few knocking on the door, for the Western Hockey League bantam draft.


10.  Kyle Cheema  - Cloverdale Colts  5”9” 155lbs
“quick in the net”  “very athletic...he was the guy with his Cloverdale team winning its first league title

9.  Matt Kustra - Notre Dame Hounds 5’10” 170 lbs
“ a 5-0 record at Kibiht has his stock rising” “best goalie in Sask --by a country mile”

8. Cole Kehler- Pembina Valley  6’0 160lbs
“big goalie that likes to challenge” – lead his rural MB team to a provincial
Title, first of its kind in over 20 years.

7.  Jeffery Veitch – Mission  6’1” 190 lbs
“best player on a bad team, no one faces more rubber than this guy” “sub-par performance at
BC Best Ever may see him fall on draft day”

6.  Trevin Kozlowski- Los Angeles Selects  5’9” 142 lbs
“best goalie from the Golden State”  “could be the first US goalie taken on draft day”

5.  Zachery Sawchenko- Calgary Royals 5’11” 172 lbs
“top goalie in the Calgary area” “character kid that will win at any level”

4. Tyson Verheist- Brandon Wheatkings 5’10” 174 lbs
“ solid all year” “top goalie in MB” “not since the brothers Millard have we seen such
a true talent”

3.  Patrick Dea- St Albert Sabres 5’11” 144 lbs
“another great goalie from Edmonton area”  “solid technically mixed with good size”

2.  Travis Child-Camrose Vikings 6’2” 170 lbs
“ best goalie in AB this year” “ a short playoff has left some scouts guessing” “a strong AB Cup could vault him into  the 1st round ”

1.Nick McBride-Burnaby Winter Club  6’2” 164 lbs
“A physical presence in the net” “best goalie on the best team equals another championship”
