The Edmonton Oil Kings were the hangover to the Calgary Hitmen party that has been taking place the last few weeks. Calgary went on a remarkable run winning 15 of 16 including an 8 game win streak and are now jockeying for a home playoff series instead of a lottery pick. However play time was over Wednesday night at the Saddledome.
T.J. Foster got the goal parade going tying the game on an Edmonton power play. It was 3-3 in the 2nd when Tyler Maxwell popped twice in under 3 minutes. Foster equaled his teammates goal update with his second pushing Edmonton in front 7-3. They both lit lamps in the 3rd for hatty's. Foster goals 20-22 and Maxwell's 30-32 gave Edmonton a 'back to the future when goals were a plenty' 9-5 victory over their provincial foes.
It was the 9th road game where they've scored at least 6 goals. That includes 2 nine goal, one 10 and one 8 goal outings..ON THE ROAD. Add in their home action and they've gone 6 plus 17 times. One stretch they piled up 27 over 4 games.
This team can score that's for sure, and they play run and gun hockey with the confidence that Laurent Brossoit can make important saves. Not always the most, but the biggest. Edmonton stays within 2 points of overall front running Kamloops and runs it's lead over Moose Jaw in the Eastern Conference to 6 points. They'll have to keep it up on their current 6 game road trip as well because everyone else is hot as well. 8 of the 9 top teams in the league have at least 7 wins in their last 10 games.
To the folks in Prince George this weekend, enjoy the show.
