Saturday Morning Special - June 25th

~
Day 2 of the 2011 NHL Entry unfolded while we were on the air and that meant a couple of live interviews with players of local interest from here in Edmonton. We also heard scrums from Minnesota involving two of the newest Edmonton Oilers. Like every week, Daren Millard joined us to give us his thoughts on the various trades that teams executed over the last couple of days as well as the one still apparently in the works. Plus a special guest host in studio as Dean Millard was on a plane coming back from the draft.

Rick Jackson of NHL Central Scouting joined me in studio today to lend a hand in evaluating the picks and even interviewing a couple of drafted players. The evaluator knows his stuff so it was nice to have him on board as we broke down the picks in round 2 and 3.

In our second segment we watched as Edmonton Oil Kings defenceman Keegan Lowe was selected by Carolina and then Travis Ewanyk's name was called by the Oilers. Immediately we were on the phone to the forward who watched the draft from home. We spoke with Ewanyk about getting chosen by the local NHL team and how much better it will be to have Ryan Nugent-Hopkins as a teammate as opposed to getting the assignment to shut him down.

Later on in the show we heard media scrum audio of both David Musil and Dillon Simpson. Both players were in Minnesota and were questioned by Edmonton media.

In the middle of the fourth round the New York Rangers stepped up and grabbed Oil Kings forward Michael St. Croix and again we were on the horn. The center joined us from his cottage in Ontario and spoke about his excitement in joining the Rangers organization.

It was a very hectic show as things happened quickly. If you want to hear how things unfolded or want to relive it all again, you can hit up the archive...HERE.

More of a draft recap still to come on the blog...

The archive goes from Part 1 to Part 6.

I assume it's just a matter of time for Parts 2-5? Uploading and processing?

No, the other 4 segments there are parts 2-4... I'll relabel to make it clearer.

Better?

Yeah, thank you.

It confused me because 1 and 6 were right beside each other.

Sorry about that. Should have checked.

Guy has his own number system. "One, then another, then another..."

Great show, Guy. Enjoyed it.
