On Tuesday night's show we told you about Nathan MacKinnon, a rising star who's turning heads at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax. There are a lot of similarities between MacKinnon and Sidney Crosby on and off the ice. The 15 year old is from Cole Harbour, just a few houses away from Crosby's family home. He currently plays at Shattuck-St. Mary's and wears the same #9 that Sidney donned when he was a Sabre. MacKinnon has put up loads of points in his younger days - 200 in 50 games as an atom, and 110 and 145 point seasons in bantam. Thankfully no one is comparing his game to Crosby's but he might be following another path of Sid The Kid.
Word out of the Canada Games from someone in the QMJHL is that the Rimouski Oceanic are working hard to make a deal for the first overall pick in the QMJHL draft. TPS has been told that Crosby's old junior team has 4 first round picks and is offering 3 of them to Rouyn-Noranda for the top pick. The Huskies reportedly want all 4 picks and a player.
While it does make a cool story if MacKinnon does end up in Rimouski, I think it heaps a ton of pressure on the youngster. He might be better off playing with the Rouyn-Noranda where if he turns the Huskies around, he'd be earning a reputation for what he does and not what he does that's similar to Sidney Crosby.

Maybe it's just because he shoots right, but he looks a lot Horton on the ice at the same age.
From what I've seen, he doesn't seem as rough and tumble as Lindros was, so I don't subscribe to that comparison, which was suggested in the Neate Sager blog article.
The Crosby comparisons have a lot to do with their similar hometown backgrounds and hockey paths, imho.
