2012 Draft Watch: Dillon Fournier

~
He's on his second QMJHL team in less than a year and has been drafted first overall twice in the same time span. It's been a strange start to his junior career but defenceman Dillon Fournier is determined to show that he's able to overcome obstacles and is a player that NHL teams should be looking hard at in advance of the 2012 NHL entry draft.

Fournier was a guest on The Pipeline Show last night as part of our regular segment where we spotlight a player eligible for the next NHL Draft.

Rimouski Hard After Crosby Clone

~
On Tuesday night's show we told you about Nathan MacKinnon, a rising star who's turning heads at the Canada Winter Games in Halifax. There are a lot of similarities between MacKinnon and Sidney Crosby on and off the ice. The 15 year old is from Cole Harbour, just a few houses away from Crosby's family home. He currently plays at Shattuck-St. Mary's and wears the same #9 that Sidney donned when he was a Sabre. MacKinnon has put up loads of points in his younger days - 200 in 50 games as an atom, and 110 and 145 point seasons in bantam. Thankfully no one is comparing his game to Crosby's but he might be following another path of Sid The Kid.

Huskies appeal Cormier suspension

-

Thanks to Dean Millard and Guy Flaming for inviting me aboard as the new QMJHL correspondent.

Just checking in with a bit of news from the Q that got buried by Team Canada Olympic fever last night.

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies announced they will be appealing the Patrice Cormier suspension to an independent arbitrator. As most of you probably know, the Atlanta Thrashers prospect was suspended for the rest of the season and the playoffs after elbowing Mikael Tam of Patrick Roy’s Quebec Remparts last month.
