As we are now just 2 sleeps from the WHL championship and just over a week from knowing who will hoist the Ed Chynoweth Cup, the Edmonton Oil Kings are the team that used to be the Oil Kings before flying off to Portland and becoming the Winter Hawks.
Tuesday night we will have an in-depth preview of this series with guests who could have a major impact on both sides. Who has the edge where and why? We'll ask super Swiss star Sven Bartschi who only racked up 90 plus points in less then 50 WHL games and lit the lamp 3 times in 5 NHL games with Calgary as an emergency call up. The Flames have been roasted for years over bad drafting, but it looks like they have this one nailed. Bartschi is scheduled to speak with us during the team's milk run to get to Edmonton so hopefully the layover is at just the right time.
On the other side of the coin, Jordan Peddle, a 20 year old Bob Green picked up for his Oil Kings team early in the season. It was a minor move, but has had major impacts at times over the season. Peddle has an excellent stat line for a 4th line grinder. 18 gp 3 g 3 a 18 pim. That tells you he does it all, and watching him shows you. Peddle now has played 7 more playoff games then his previous 4 years in the league. He and the Broncos made the post season in his first 2 but never made it past the first round.
Our 2012 draft eligible player in the spot light with hopefully be Miles Koules who decided this weekend he will play in Medicine Hat next season. Once your sort through all the bull when dealing with commitment issues, Guy summed it up best recently saying, 'a commitment to an NCAA school is nothing more then saying, IF I chose college hockey I'll play for you. Mile will skate for the same team his dad did and hopes to hear his name called this year after spending time with the National Development team in Michigan.
Our resident CHL insider Sam Cosentino from Rogers Sportsnet will keep us updated on what's going on out east in the OHL and QMJHL as we inch closer to the Master Card memorial Cup and the Sports Doc Taylor Medak who's the voice of the Sherwood Park Crusaders will have the final instalment of INSIDE THE AJHL.
