The Canadian Hockey League unveiled their new websites today, with every team coming under one umbrella...finally. In the past there were some terribly outdated sites that lacked information. Even the 3 different league sites (WHL, OHL, QMJHL) were miles apart when it came to consistency. All the details can be found here.
Meanwhile Columbus has signed 2009 4th overall pick Ryan Johansen to an entry level contract. Aaron Portzline has the details here. I agree with Aaron that it's unlikely Johansen will stick with the Jackets this year, which is a relief to everyone in Portland where the centre will continue to develop in the WHL. It sounds like the Islanders will keep Johansen's Winterhawk linemate Nino Neiderrieter with the big club this year, and if Johansen somehow sticks with CBJ it would decimate the Hawks high hopes this year.

Guy, the new CHL website is terrible. That is all.
Take it up with Dean... I didn't write this.
I haven't had a chance yet to check out the new CHL sites but I usually don't like change. Because I'm old. And cranky.
The CHL website looks just as bad as it ever did.
But the WHL website is better and the QMJHL is much better. The old "Q" site was a nightmare to traverse.
I loved the old QMJHL site. The stats section was much more in-depth than the Pointstreak system that the OHL and WHL used. I don't understand how or why people had so much trouble with it.
With that said, this new system is terrible. The season started on Thursday for QMJHL teams and you still can't get stats or standings. You're lucky if you can even find results.
Quite frankly, this is completely unacceptable. As an IT guy, it bothers me to no end that they apparently didn't do any testing before they launched.
Also just to be a stickler, decimate means kill one tenth of. So unless his departure reduces their hopes by 10 percent, then devastate was the word. I find it humorous how often news print uses that word incorrectly, you'd think they'd have a proof reader for things like that.
That's the end of my Grammar police offering =).
