Tuesday Night On TPS

~
Tuesday night Guy and I had a live studio audience, went coast to coast in the CHL, introduced you to a Texan eligible for the NHL draft and discussed who would be our 4th nominee for the Calder Trophy.

We started things off by welcoming Paul Kelly and Nate Ewell into our studio, both me are from College Hockey Inc and are in town to promote the NCAA game. They are hosting an event Wednesday in Spruce Grove that will educate young hockey players on the college game. We spoke with Paul and Nate about the ongoing tug of war over players between the CHL and NCAA and Kelly told us who was trying to convince some players not to attend their event. We discussed the relationship between CHI the CHL and Hockey Canada and what hurdles need to be jumped over for the NCAA to get on a level playing field when it comes to recruiting. We also chatted about the lack of exposure in Canada to the event and how future Frozen Fours might be seen on TV or live in person north of the 49th.

From there Guy and I discussed the 3 players nominated for the Calder Trophy and who we would have as our 4th guy, if there was one. Both of us picked defenceman but there is a forward who was close on Guy's list. We chatted about which rookies have impressed so far in the post season and who Sam Reinhart lit things up at the National AAA Midget Championship for the Pacific reps from Vancouver.

In hour #2 our CHL insider Sam Cosentino joined us for 2 segments where we went through the CHL playoffs where a blow out in the QMJHL has set up the semi finals, how the Memorial Cup hosts play boring but effective hockey and how the Chilliwack to Victoria announcement will go Wednesday while the cities ECHL team is still in the playoffs. Also will Lewiston take a somewhat similar path as the Charlestown Chiefs from Slap Shot. The Chiefs won the Federal league and folded while the Maniecs are in the semi final and could very well be sold and relocated to Summerside P.E.I next year. We also discussed the different paths all 3 Calder candidates have taken, and who we think wins it.

We wrapped up the show with our 2011 draft prospect Stefan Noesen who played for Plymouth this year. How did Tyler Seguin help him get ready for the draft, what caused him to go from 8 points last year to 77 this time around. How the Dallas stars affected the Texas product and how a guy who grew up in the WHL jurisdiction ended up in Plymouth. Bonus points if you can tell us which WHL team held his rights when he was drafted by the league.

If you missed it live, click the archive....here. Where you can also listen to any other show we've ever done.

I haven't listened to the interview with Noesen yet, but pretty sure the WHL team was the Portland Winterhawks...
